"Hurt So Bad" - The Delfonics (1968)
A pre-Philly soul version of the 1964 hit for Little Anthony & The Imperials, produced by Thom Bell, off of the 1968 classic album La La La (Means I Love You.) The earlier version was more of a lament, whereas this arrangement plays out more like a bold overture. To me it says: “Hey! I’m a hip and swinging cat, obviously. So, Don’t leave me. Or else, behold, all the sweet moves you’ll be missing out on.” That’s one seriously irresistible catchy tune that renders the argument “Stay" irrefutable.
